Rory's been dealing with chest pains, shortness of breath and other discomfort, enough that the Oncology folks wanted her to take a trip to the emergency room to get checked out. Before leaving a family friend stopped by the house and did some massage for her, which really helped a lot, so she decided not to go down. She called the nurse back and ended up leaving a message. Around 4:30 the nurse called the house to find out about her going to the hospital - apparently she never got the message. After talking some more, they agreed to have her run down to the ER anyway. Thanks again to family friends who are always willing to drop whatever they are doing to help out.
I met her at the ER a little after 5:00 and we got checked in. The chest pain was back and she wasn't moving too well, so it looks like a good thing she agreed to come down. Our ER nurse (who used to be a touring drummer ... interesting guy) got us all set up in the BIGGEST exam room I've ever seen in an ER. This new wing is pretty amazing. Everyone has been super great so far. Good news:
- EKG looks fine (that was my main concern)
- Kidneys are functioning great
- Liver results are good
- Specific heart enzyme came back negative, indicating NO stress on the heart
She's down now getting a chest CT, as the doctor said her symptoms sound like a possible blood clot. Apparently that's not uncommon for people going through chemo? We'll see what they say in awhile, but everyone so far is happy with the results they've gotten. Since they start by looking for the most severe things first, and those are being ruled out, we're all taking that as a good sign.
Rory's pain has still been pretty severe and the numbness pretty bad. She agreed to try a pain med she hasn't had before, so hopefully there won't be any negative side effects and that pain will be gone, at least for awhile.
